175 Cases of Expo Symbol Infringements Investigated

On December 1, 2009, the Expo 2010 Shanghai Intellectual Property Exhibition was held; 5 years after the implementation of the Regulation on the Protection of World Expo Logo Marks. Departments of Industry and Commerce, Copyright, Customs and Urban Management have assisted the organizers of Expo 2010 Shanghai and investigated and solved 175 cases of infringements of the Expo symbols.

In the past five years, China has severely cracked down on Expo symbol infringements. From 2008 to the third quarter of 2009 alone, The Departments of Industry and Commerce investigated and solved 55 cases of Expo symbols infringements, worth 168,000 Yuan.

In the past five years, the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination has made records for 61 Expo logos at State Administration for Industry and Commerce of China (SAIC), among which there are 52 word logos and 9 graphic logos; made records for 57 Expo logos at the General Administration of Customs of China, among which there are 52 word logos and 5 graphic logos. The Expo Symbols Administration Office has accepted and recorded 279 applications from the public seeking permission to use the Expo symbols, 80% of which have been approved.
